Tool Bar: Text Buttons instead of icons (optional)

Instead of the icons in the tool bar which I never use I`d prefer to have text-buttons.
That means buttons that all look alike and have text discribing the function instead of a symbol.
This should be optional since not everybody will like it this way but I would and maybe also a few other users.
Draw a skin---

Hello !
• The tool bar provides buttons, anyway.
- Hence, just draw a bitmap skin having texts instead of images, following
THESE INSTRUCTIONS…
- However, I think that the size of each “text-icon” must be large enough,
or else that could lead to display quite incomprehensible abbreviations…

Just a couple of days ago I made me a “skin” which does exactly what you're looking for, mostly harmless:
- Create a sub-directory in %ProgramFiles%\XnView\skins\ and call it “null”.
- Copy & paste the following text into Notepad and save it as %ProgramFiles%\XnView\skins\null\info.txt:
Code: Select all
label = "null (Interface » Toolbar » Buttons » Show button text)"
width = 1
height = 1
browser = 0
auto = 1
version = 3
main32 = 0
browser32 = 0
tabtree = 0
icninfo = 0
imbar = 0
jpgbar = 0
Don't forget to remove all the trailing spaces phpBB puts at the end of every line/paragraph.
- Download 1z53rwm.gif (34×1 pixels), convert it to “Windows Bitmap” format and save it as %ProgramFiles%\XnView\skins\null\main.bmp.
- Restart XnView and go to Tools » Options....
- Enable the Show button text setting (Interface » Toolbar » Buttons) and select “null” as your skin (Interface » Toolbar » Skin).
Real skin vs. (Xn)Tri¦ck¦q

Hello !
•
Clever but a bit “lazy” solution… Using the buttons labels has a big disadvantage :
- In the average, the labels are wider than the normal icons, hence you can place less ones in a bar
(without the hellish extra-menu_list when that overflows).
• That I proposed above is a real skin, and I drew a quick-made sample (just the first items and the last one),
below as 37×41 pixels per item (same size than a skin of mine with images) :

• If some users requested such a “Text-skin”, I could draw one on demand, according to the users' wishes
(not too small, though, like I said above).
Note : I left the temporary marking off I use to draw skins

Right, Clo. My “null” skin (if one can call it a skin) was meant as a quick-and-dirty solution or a “proof of concept” kind of experiment.
It would only make sense, if the toolbars were wrapable (
as suggested by JohnFredC).

Hello !
• Just to test, I drew a text-skin as 35² per item, it's really the minimum size…
• Available to download
HERE.
- Have fun !
