I'm having this same problem, however I can't figure out how to get ghostscript insalled correctly. I tried using the package I found here:
http://www.linuxfoundation.org/en/OpenP ... X/foomatic

..but after installing it I still get the same error. Any suggestions?

I'm not sure. How would I check?

Btw, if I run the "gs" command in terminal, it runs ghostscript just fine.

ok, so I found the gs binary and I put it in the same directory as nconvert, but now its throwing this error:
error "GPL Ghostscript 8.57: Unrecoverable error, exit code 1
Error: Don't know how to read this picture (/Users/aross/Pictures/scan1.pdf)
" number 254

You can't put only the exe, there is many other files used.
You should change your PATH env var
