Preserving options on U3 device

I use XnView on a U3 device but when I make any changes in the 'Tools > options' they are lost when the U3 device is unplugged from the PC. I use the device on various PC's so I need to preserve the options on the actual device, not the PC its plugged in to.
I've tried the 'save to' options' in the Registry and as an 'ini' file in XnView and Windows, but NOT 'User' because I don't what that means? None preserve all the options!
How do I get it to save these options on the U3 device?

Do you use the last U3 package?

I'm using v1.93.1, which is the latest version on the U3 software site.

OK, I've installed v1.96.5 from your website but it still reverts to the default settings when I plug in the U3 device. Which option should I select in Tools>Options>System Integration>Save Options?
