Hi
We are using XNView 1.97.6
I have strange bug with IPTC saving.
With local files IPTC saving work properly. Both buttons "Write" and "Apply" are working.
If I work with network folders I have problem. I have all file and folder permission.
In browser mode, "Edit IPTC data", Write button doesn't work. For Example, I change Caption, then click to "Write" and caption reverts to previous state.
In single photo mode "Write" button doesn't work too, but "Apply" button works and saves IPTC data..
If we use version 1.96.5 - all work properly.

I've tried, and no problem.
Do you try on the same file (local and network)?

Re: can't save IPTC in network folders
I have the same problem with XnView 1.97.8, whereas 1.97.5 works.Evgeniy wrote:I've tried on some files - problem exist with network file.

My configuration:
I use Windows 7 home premium as a virtual machine via VMware Fusion on an Apple iMac, and also via Oracle/Sun Virtual Box on a second iMac. I have photo folders on both iMacs, and these are accessed by XnView as network files from the Win7 VM's.
In the VMware Fusion case I can successfully store IPTC object descriptions also from XnView 1.97.8. In the VirtualBox case 1.97.5 works fine while in 1.97.8 the object descriptions disappear from the input field immediately when I click the "Write" button.

I find cause of error! Temporary files (.bak & etc.) creation have disabled on the network server by File Screening Service. I mean you have changed IPTC saving algorimt since 1.96.5 version. At old verson you weren't to use .bak file.

You have all rights to write in the folder? Do you have tried on same file?wandro wrote:In the VMware Fusion case I can successfully store IPTC object descriptions also from XnView 1.97.8. Yes, XnView creates now a temporary file, and replace it after if all is ok. Previous method was not so good...Evgeniy wrote:I find cause of error! If XnView use _, is it better? (file.jpg/file_.jpg instead of file.jpg.bak)

Re: can't save IPTC in network folders
Sorry, I had made an attempt to recursively assign read/write privileges to the picture folder and evrything contained in it. But apparently that hasn't been successful. After repeating the recursive assignment of privileges it seems to work now.xnview wrote:You have all rights to write in the folder? Do you have tried on same file?
Many thanks!
