Border

Suggestion: border
On the "Image" menu, a new option called "Add border."
When clicked on, it shows (a) color of border, and (b) width of border in pixels, and allows the user to change them. These values both default to something, and once the user changes them, they stay that value. (I don't think there is any need for multiple borders and options.)
If the user doesn't need to make any changes, or after she does, then she clicks on "ok", and the border is applied on all four edges of the image. The default values may be "10 pixels" and "red", or something of the sort.
I perform this operation frequently, but currently must use "canvas size" and manually add ten (or whatever) pixels in both dimensions.
Having a one (or two) click means to add a border would be very nice.

Thanks, XnTriq. It's nice to know that my idea is not completely off-base. At least not this one.

I have recently been using a trial version of a screen capture program called "Snagit." ("Snag" is a slang English term that means "grab" or "take.") This program offers a border-addition option, and it does a very nice job of it. So if Pierre decides to add the border option, you might want to check out Snagit to see how its programmers accomplished the function.
As an aside, Snagit seems like an excellent program for anybody who needs a full-featured screen capture program. It is not free or even cheap (US$ 49), but it has many excellent features.

do you have tried 'add border' in XnConvert?

Well, thanks to your suggestion, I have tried it now. It works beautifully, perfectly, is exactly what I wanted--but it is an extra step that involves loading a separate program.
It's probably too late now, but have you thought about making XnView and XnConvert simply different "modes" of the same program? If they were the same program and XnView were the "image editor" view, and XnConvert was the "batch conversion" view, then you would never have features (like border) that were in one program and not in the other.
In any case, thanks for the tip about XnConvert. It's a nice program, I may use it.
Best regards to you, Pierre, and the rest of the XnTeam.

1) I know that there are a number of adobe type plugins to add borders & edges, perhaps one of those would suit your needs for the time being.
2) $50 for a screenshot prog is retarded. Honestly, even the basic concept of a seperate program just for screencapping is pretty pointless when you consider that every image viewer & editor out there as screenshot functions built in. The only functionality that some commercial screenshot software includes which most/all freeware doesn't is the ability to capture directx/hardware accelerated layers (you know when you try to take a screen of a video player & just get a black square where the vid should be?).
3) Xnview really ought to consolidate it's batch processing, the current situation is quite confusing. First you have the seperate xconvert program, then within xnview itself you have "batch process" and "sequence convert", both of which seem to do the same thing, and both of which seem to do the same thing that xconvert does.

Drahken, I also thought that $50 was a ridiculous price for a screen saver. Now I've tried it, and I'm not so sure! I've used many screen savers, and Snagit has all the features I've ever seen plus many that I haven't. It includes a very nice image editor, supports irregular shaped captures, transparent background, highlighting, arrows, text boxes with full font control, etc etc. As I said, it it worth considering for somebody who goes a lot of screen capturing for documentation or other professional purposes. Of course, XnView is worth $1000 on this scale....
