Import and Sort Problem

Hi
If I use import and sort, it works fine except:
If I assign a category that already exists as a sub category - a new category is created. Clear as mud?
I have a Category setup as -
Category=Location
Subcategory=Cornwall
If I assign a category of Cornwall to the import it creates a new main category of Cornwall, how do I assign a sub category to the import so that a new category is NOT created. Hope that makes things a bit clearer and someone can help me.
Cheers
tonyt

Perhaps is a bug. I don't know.
Are you sure that you type exactly the keyword? Perhaps the search to match with the existing keyword in tree is case sensitive?
Anyway, the Import dialog is a new feature (appeared in 0.64) and from GUI design it seems that it has a potential but it needs improvement. I would choose another way to enter the categories/keywords - more safer and powerful.
In fact I would have just a single, central engine to select them. But let's wait for 0.65.
Another improvement for Import dialog would be the possibility to enter a custom destination (sub)folder, not only yyyy/mm variants.
Another one is to allow Move not only Copy files.
Another one is a custom rename mask.

I agree. I organize the physical files by
yyyy/yyyy-mm-dd so it would be nice to have that as an option or be able to enter that format manually. Thanks,

Yes- in fact, the most common layout among photographers is by far {insert your temporal organization here: yyyy/mm, yyyy/yyyy-mm-dd aso.} and in this temporal organization to have subfolders with the name of the event:
Code: Select all
2014
07
08
Wedding - Jane Doe, John Doe
Portrait session - John Doe Jr.
Sports - Car Racing
etc....

it's not a problem of "import and sort" but importing XMP keywords
"Cornwall" is added to the files but without hierarchical keyword, so must i add this file to a root "Cornwall" category or find the first "Cornwall" category?

Find first "Cornwall" category.
Usually the users import images in stages / batches and expect to have the images merged in their category tree.
