Hi
How do I delete ALL db's and prefs and start again. Also, how to reset all prefs settings to defaults?
I've messed things up and want to try again.
Cheers
tony
PS I'm on a Mac

Go to Tools | Settings | Integration | Paths and press on 'Open Config Files Location' and 'Open the Database Location'.
Close XnView MP.
Now from 'Open Config Files Location' delete xnview.ini
...and from 'Open DB Location' delete xnview.db and thumbs.db

Many thanks both. If I just want to stop writing separate XMP files, what settings should I use? I have them set as follows at present. I don't suppose it is possible to force XMP sidecar info into the jpeg or dng?
Cheers

By the way - I don't see a folder named .xnviewmp in my root user folder? AH! Sorry - hidden file! Why is that?

1.
PRAY A LOT for Pierre to implement the new Medadata storage engine described here:
http://newsgroup.xnview.com/viewtopic.p ... 45#p118264
2. Let's clear the things a bit:
What you're looking after is Metadata. Metadata is "more data about your photo". In (y)our case I think that's RCK (Rating/Color/Keywords - or Categories in XnView).
XMP is just a standard to present this Metadata.
Sidecar is a file (dependent of the main file - the image) which holds the Metadata encoded in various formats. Of course the most common format is XMP. Hence usually we talk about "XMP Sidecars".
Till here is everything clear?
Now on:
Indeed, there are some formats which can embed the Metadata inside of them. JPG and DNG are two of these.
For JPG I know that XnView MP supports it. With DNG I don't have experience (I keep our Raw files as they are).
In your screenshot, in order to
"force XMP sidecar info into the jpeg or dng"
you must check all three 'Export' checkboxes. If you want, perhaps is better to check the last one also ('Write comment in XMP...")

Thanks m.Th. I tried checking those boxes when I first starred, but it generated a separate xmp file for each picture? Unless I am doing something wrong which is more then possible. I look forward to hearing from you.

For Jpg?
But let's start from another angle: What is your human problem which you're trying to solve?

Hi
What I want to be able to do is add categories/keywords, ratings and colour labels to jpeg and dng files so that the information is retained within the file. Then I want to be able to copy, rename or move the file and the information to stay in the file. I want to be able to do this mainly from within XNMp and sometimes from outside XNMP. I do not want to generate sidecar files at all. I am not worried about image integrity.
I hope this helps and that you can help me!
Best wishes

Aha! Don't do it.
View | Update files from database generates xmp sidecars
regardless of the file format. We hope that in the next release the things will change.
Re-read this:
http://newsgroup.xnview.com/posting.php ... 4#pr118668
The last paragraph there is your solution for JPG (and possibly for DNGs).
Perhaps I must stress that if you enable all
Export... checkboxes
the metadata is updated automatically - no need to go to
