Will New Version Eradicate Older Versions Features?

I DL the new Extended version (2.22) XnView Ext. Setup from here.
http://www.xnview.com/en/xnview/#downloads
What I need to know is if I can install it without doing anything. In other words, will it just remove what it needs to and update with no problems? I have XnViewMP 64bit version 0.64 installed and it prompts me to update. I also have shell extension version 3.5.0 that I installed separately in the past.
Also, does it have at least the same features as XnViewMP? Not sure if it is the same thing or not, or if it has more or less features.

XnView 2.22 is the latest version of the original Windows-only XnView program, now referred to as XnView 'Classic' : if you have an earlier version of that software installed and you install XnView 2.22 Extended it should find your existing xnview.ini file and your existing settings should be maintained.
XnViewMP is a new program that is cross-platform with Unicode support that is currently still in beta: you can install the 32-bit or 64-bit version alongside XnView 'Classic' as it is an entirely separate program. It has an attractive new interface and new browser functions, but the feature set is not yet complete.
Note that if you have XnViewMP 0.64 installed it would be better to delay updating to the latest version temporarily until an issue with the browser database has been resolved.
I hope that answers your questions, there is often some confusion between the original version and the new program, and XnViewMP is often incorrectly referred to as 'XnView' in posts.

Please quit all file managers and deactivate
Use XnView Shell Extension (

Integration) prior to updating or uninstalling XnView Classic and/or the XnView shell extension.

XnTriq, you said to disable all file managers. I have the following programs installed.
AxCrypt, Classic Shell, KeePass, QTTabBar, Teracopy, and Winstep Xtreme. Are these considered file managers?
Also,

I guess I'll wait until such time. I'm very curious to hear Pierre's recommendation as to what the best thing is for me to do.

XnView's shell extension (XnShell) resides in the context menu of file managers such as the
Windows Explorer or 3rd-party solutions like
Directory Opus,
Total Commander etc.
XnShell can only be deleted or overwritten with a newer version, if
XnViewShellExt.dll or
XnViewShellExt64.dll aren't actively running and in use.
The other extensions and add-ons you mentioned don't have to be disabled. Just close all open instances of those programs that make use of XnShell, then start XnView
with admin rights, go to

Options... »
System integration »
Integration and disable
Use XnView Shell Extension.
- XnView v2.x (Classic/Legacy)
- Windows
- 32-bit
- Minimal
- Standard
- Extended (= Full/Complete) includes XnShell 32-bit
- XnViewMP (Multi Platform)
- XnShell (Shell Extension)

I don't know what that is. Not sure if this a online feature. Is this something that affects the program no matter what features are used? I use XnViewMP for batch renaming images and the couple of video file types (wish it would recognize mp4) that XnViewMP recognizes on my PC and not for any online/browser stuff if that's even possible. I currently don't use any of the other features not directly related to batch renaming because I use another program to view images and another for any type of image editing and conversion.
Does anyone know when the newer update for XnViewMP that fixes the browser database issue will be released? The reason I'm asking is because I use it frequently everyday and every time I open it via the shell extension I get the notification to update. It gets very annoying because I have to keep cancelling the message and also wonder if I'm missing out on something better.

Great! Thanks Pierre! I DL the 64-bit exe for XnViewMP and the Shell Extension from the links that XnTriq posted but didn't install them because I ran into a bit of a problem.

I don't see that option anywhere. I tried both XnViewMP and the Shell Extension and couldn't find a way to disable either one of them. I only see an option to uninstall the Shell Extension.

Sorry, Brans. I was assuming that you had already installed XnView Classic. This option is not available in MP.
If you installed XnShell with the setup (
XnShellEx.exe or
XnShellEx64.exe), you can
uninstall the old version as you would do with any other software and then install the new version.

Okay, thanks for replying. I uninstalled and installed the new versions. So far, all is well. BTW, I saw it updating the database.
cday, XnTriq and Pierre, thanks for your help.
