How to have larger res than desktop photos shrink

First off, this is the closest match to the older traditional ACDSee I've ever seen. Same preview window and file browser options! It's almost perfect except for a few things. One big thing with happens in viewing mode:
ACDSee had an option to Fit Windows to Image. XnView has this too, but when I view images that have a larger resolution than my desktop resolution the images will be viewed at actual size and will not shrink to fit the desktop. This gets annoying because when scrolling quickly through a pile of images I can't really see what the image is if it's blown up and huge. Is there a way to have larger images than desktop resolution just shrink to desktop resolution?
Thanks for any help!!
PS Just saw this post about this same problem I have back in 2008! So I hope this has been fixed somehow like 7 years later lol!
