XnView could not determine jpeg type

I have recently reinstalled XnView on my new Acer Nitro17 with Windows 10. However, it does not open some of my photos that it managed to process in previous installation.
It seems that it has problems with large jpgs (scans of my large format negatives). It was able to display a thumbnail, but when I tried to open the file, I got warned that I have not enough memory. That is weird, because my new notebook has more physical memory and better graphics card than the previous one, but I thought that maybe there is a problem with graphic card and forced XnView to use Nvidia and not Intel manually using windows context menu.
After that, a new kind of error popped up - suddenly, XnView can not determine type of these jpg files, although it porcesses other jpgs alright. I tried to check "Display all image types" as suggested by the error message, but nothing changed.
Any idea, what may be causing it? I had no problem with the same kind of file in an older version of XnView.
