Hi,

some of our PDF files can´t open, we get the error message: The file format is not recognized.
We have installed ghostscript and a few PDF files could be opened.

Can you help us?

I attached the error message (but in german).

Im found the mistake.
All on a network drive saved files get the erroe message. If I copied the files on my local desktop, I can open the files.

But why it is so?

Okay, we have found that the files the can´t open are saved in a folder with umlauts (Ä, Ü, Ö).
But not all PDF files. Some files we can open inside these folders with the umlauts.

Can you please help us? Because we can´t change the folder names. An other program has saved the path with this folder names.

XnView Classic doesn't support Unicode characters, but you should be able to open the files using XnView MP...

I installed XnView MP, but the same Problem.
Error opening file.

If I tried to open the files the second time it works.
Can we use XnView MP with the same license like XnView?

In XnView Classic you could try Tools > Options > General > General tab -- Ignore read errors as XnView software is sometimes less tolerant of slightly malformed files than other software...

Otherwise, could you upload a file, although possibly the problem is related to the path rather than the file -- you could try opening the same file in a path not using Unicode characters?

Oh no, I mean that we can open the files with XnView MP not XnView. XnView MP works.
Thats why we will use XnView MP in the future.
I hat already written that we can open the files if we copied the files in an other folder. But we can´t use other folders for these files. And we can´t rename the folders.
