Show files in subfolders / separator for new folder?

I'm using the option "show files in subfolders" in the browser quite often when searching for or sorting pictures. Is it possible to show a separator in the thumbnail list whenever a new folder "starts"? I generally store images in folders by date and I also add a short keyword as description of the occasion to the foldername. Currently I have to go into the file properties of an image to see which folder it is in (and for most paths I even have to scroll the directory entry in the properties by highlighting it to see the actual folder it is in).

I guess that is what I mean.

This is how it looks now (images of the same color are in the same subfolder):
How it looks now
How it looks now
and has messy results like this for sorting depending on filenames (order by name should sort by full path name, not just filename):
prevent mess like this
prevent mess like this
Instead I'd find it very helpful if it looked like this:
How it should be separated
How it should be separated

Thanks for the screenshots/mock-ups! I, for one, would certainly use this feature all the time.
