I have a lot of scans of old color photos that have turned yellow and should all be improved by using
Image->Map->Automatic Levels
Now I open, say, a dozen, and do the Image->Map->Automatic Levels -> Save -> close one-by-one
is it possible to do this in a kind batch, say, do all the above on all open images.

If it is too complicated using scripting whatever, then, forget it, that would then take more time that
doing this manually then.

In Tools > Batch convert... there is an automatic levels action under Actions > Add action > Map that you could use.

You might first experiment with using Image > Adjust > Levels... on the main menu bar (keyboard shortcut L) on some example images to determine if there are values that consistently produce a good result, then use those values in batch convert if they produce a better result.

If you haven't used batch convert before, the settings on the tabs are generally self-explanatory but you do need to study the available settings on each tab carefully to avoid possible surprises.

Ah! Thanks, I will give it a try tomorrow. Basicall all photos that I have scanned are coming fine with this image->map->automatic levels.
It is really unbelievable. Maybe with a lot effort within e.g. Photoshop, maybe.. even better results are obtainable, but right now, this automatic levels is doing a fantastic job.

It is doing fine on these old color photos with a color shift (they got yellow or even red).
I have a LOT of b.w images that I (myself) printed very softly - no high contrast - much greytones - way back.
The automatic levels, it is not doing much on those.
Changes are hardly visible.

Do you have a tip ?

I would suggest testing an Adjust > Levels... adjustment in the viewer to see if you can find settings that are better, and also Adjust > Shadows/Highlight... . In the Image > Map menu you also have Automatic contrast and an Old camera setting... you could try [I'm not sure if that is effectively a gamma adjustment, which you could try if you find one . ]

Upload an example image if you wish, some people like a challenge...

On the b/w images Image->Map, both 'Automatic' doesn't work, I see no differences.
Old camera, I don't know - the preview remains black.

The only thing I can do is use Image->Levels and shift the top slider from left (0) to right, to say 30-40, then some contrast is added.
But regretfully that is not a 1-click solution, like the 'Automatic Levels'.

The idea would be to see if you can find Levels settings that improve images in general, and then use those settings in Batch convert ...

Could you upload the actual image above, rather than the image open in XnView MP?
