Stereo : Formats & Viewing

Post by OCTAGRAM » Wed Sep 28, 2005 6:33 am

Stereo images are usually stored in a bit modified version of the most popular formats. I'm aware of JPS (JPEG-Stereo) and PNS (PNG-Stereo) format existence. Such images can be treated as multipage.
Viewing of this images can present in XnView.
nVidia has providen StereoBlt API in its "nVidia SDK".

The most popular stereo format is JPEG-stereo. I mean LCD-targetted images only. I think it's not so difficult to find some examles.
It is harder to find images in another formats. Here are examples of PNS, BMP (BMP-Stereo), GIS, H3D and JPS, of course. They seem to be normal image files with two glued images. Whether it is true or not, it may be helpful to work with each part separatelly.
I was browsing http://www.really.ru (available in English) image gallery when I found out that JPS'es from this site (like this) are shown as row interleaved.

*bump*
I just made some nice 3D stereo captures of some h game. They are in PNG/PNS format, 2x1024x768: http://www.sexuploader.com/?d=DTQJCH83 (NSFW)
I had renamed the extension to PNG, so you will have to change it back.
Full support (pageflipping, anaglyph, whatever...) for these filetypes would be nice, but adding the file extensions to XnView so it makes thumbnails at least would be nice.
The cheapest way is to simply cross our eyes to watch such images. They're not specifically targeted for shutterglasses.
Shouldn't this go into a different forum?
>_<
