Cannot import from USB connected camera

My camera is connected by USB to my PC in what I think is called PTP mode. I can browse the contents of the SD card in the camera using Windows File Explorer, but I cannot 'see' the camera or SD card when trying to define the source in 'import and sort' in XnView MP. I do not have this problem when using other similar applications. Is this a user error?

if you camera is not mounted as drive, XnView can't see it (PTP is not supported)
