As I understand, General>Startup>Use all formats available controls if not-most-used filetypes appear in Save As at all and Write>File types control which filetypes appear on this list in first places.

Deleted .ini file.
1.
General>Startup>Use all formats available unchecked (default).
Go to Write>File types, select None, click OK.
Reopen window, all file types are selected and in Save As window appear all filetypes with no selection of most-used at the beginning- both should not. Expected behaviour: After reopening Options file types should be unselected, only most-used types should appear in Save As window.
2.

Generally, it seems to me that General>Startup>Use all formats available doesn't work at all.

'Use all formats' is to initialize xnview with the support of all formats...

I think this "Use all formats" is very confusing. I still don't understand when this should be used and what it is for.

No in the file list you have 2 lists, most used first!

We really need a seperator to split the most common formats from the rest. Currently it looks just like a long, long list.

- AFAIK, this does not seem possible (easily ?) with the used programming language…

- It's one more reason for which I proposed another way to get the most used¦usual types for “Save as…”

- Currently, that list stays as so impractical as formerly, as a long «solid» pack of lines, and doesn't solve the issues I encounter when making a lot of screen shots as prior BMP, then PNG one by one that need to be saved alternatively into two different target-folders…

Hello !

- Although I think still that such a double-list won't do any good whatever(*), you could get a separator as following :

1. Create a fancy¦fake file-type either as

a) *.------------------------------------------- (needed number of dashes)

b) or as *.——————————————————— (#151, needed number of extra-long dashes)

c) or as (more visible and “XP-look”) *.• • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • (#149, needed number of bullets)

2. Place it at the right location in the list.

- Note :
<b)> and <c)> require that you CHANGE that awful f****** antiquated internal font in the EXE because they miss in it.
• For instance, "MS Shell Dlg" should be convenient since using "Microsoft Sans Serif" by default under XP and similar (same look), and allows to set any appropriate complete font under Win 9x using the section [FontSubstitutes] in <Win.ini>
- It should solve many other issues too…

OK, but what is the effect of this option??? What happens if support for all format is initialized and what happens when it's not?

I could easily save JPG file in Wavefront Raster Image. So it seems support for all formats is active after all, despite turning off the option?!?

I've written a whole epistle here but I changed my mind and deleted it. Please Pierre, just try to answer such questions form our point of view. I am sure that Use all format actually DOES something, but we don't know the code, we just use the application.

If this option is enabled, you have more than 500 formats available in reading, if not the 100 most used

I think this is an issue: We have an option which does something which is not clear - even to experienced users. Not quite clear how to improve this, but something must happen here.

An option which noone understands what it does is always an issue. Novice users are irritated, standard users don't understand, either, and some power users reading this forum understand and know. This is no good.

Perhaps we can change label for "Initialize all supported formats"?

Or "Read all supported formats (500+)"
If name change is not enough, moving it to Options>Read would also help prevent it from being confused with file association or write types.

Maybe the problem is that users don't know what happens if this options is disabled...

What about:

[x] Read the most used formats only (similar to Associations option)
