XnView Software

Hi, I am a newbie who has just found XnView and so far like what I see.

However I am looking for a facility to view an image at actual size and cannot find how to do this. Am I missing something or does this feature not exist?

¤ What do you mean exactly ? You can adjust the displayed image-size at will according to the current window of XnView. There are a lot of menu-entries and options to perform this; please, just give a glance in the “View” menu >> “Auto image size”, and too in the Options >> View, I'm pretty sure that your happiness is there !

absolutely . whatever my pixel count/size I wish to click a button and see the image automaticaly in that size. at present I cannot see that function - but would like to

That would be a nice feature. Unfortunately, I've never heard of any image viewer that has it.

just to add, I appreciate the options> view variations and I take it the '' no fit '' option is an 'actual size' of the image as I would like it. however I expect most view an image in 'fit image to window' but a button with actual size/ no fit would allow simple toggling between screens and be a lot quicker to use than flying up and down drop down screens.

just imho but hope something could be done

The "no fit" and "fit window to image" options show the image at 100% zoom, but not at actual, realworld size. (ie They'll show the image at it's full 500x500 pixels instead of scaling it down to 250x250 pixels, but it won't show it at 3 inches or 20 centimeters or whatever.)

mmm, . . try ACDSee, Faststone, Breezebrowser, iView . . . . etc etc

I also think you may find the '' "no fit" is an actual size but I would like confirmation and ask if its possible to add some kind of quick link without having to go to drop down windows.

- Maybe just adding "Units" in the options for the size-features could do the trick ?

- Or else, an option reachable from a menu : "Printed size", with the choice of geometrical units too ? And¦or standard page-formats (A3, A4…) ?

It's not. It's pixel-exact size: one pixel of image fits one pixel of screen.
If you want something like your demand, go to Print window (File>Print) and you can play there. You can see there how image fits some area taking into account different DPIs.

BTW, if somebody would like to see, at least approximately, how the picture looks printed, XnView would have to support _at least_ color management in the FIRST place, not talking about support for differrent RIPs (raster image processor).

Color management would be welcomed BTW.

actual size to me is image pixel dimension size.

Eg in Photoshop and many other apps one can hit a button and get an actual size image (or a print size image). Actual size is also very usefull in making rapid appraisal to view sharpness, colour, contrast etc in view mode

As common with some other apps XnView gives many size options, the most obvious being 'fit window, fit width, fit height' etc but all under a drop down window. All I am suggesting is it possible to have a button to hit to obtain an actual size image, which I would argue is the most usefull size available, without going thro a drop down window.

If this is causing so many queeries I should perhaps withdraw the suggestion.

Try * and \
The asterisk key <*>. Its listed under the menu>zoom 100%. It looks like a place marker, but it isn't- its the keyboard shortcut.

The backslash key <\> to fit image to window.

I mean forward slash for fit to window /. Its under menu>view>autoimage size> fit window to image all </>.
