For me, in Linux Mint but also I think in Windows if I booted into it, using the Print Screen key on the keyboard '(Prt Sc' on my keyboard).

Do you see a Print Screen key somewhere on your keyboard?

I don't think that there is an option to add an icon on the toolbar.

The Print Screen key captures the whole screen, so you first need to open the saved screen image, and then if you only want part of the screen you need to crop the image created and save it.

Another way would be to make a selection around the text you want on the original image, then paste the selection onto a new blank image canvas created using File > New image... .

And if you need to paste the text into a word processor, for example, you would need to convert the text image into searchable text. There are freeware tools for that, and if the original image on the screen is good quality you could use an [OCR] software directly on that image, without needing to make a screenshot. One such OCR software which seems to work well is NAPS2.

@Kadet: Thanks for that, I was aware of the file browser menu item Tools > Capture... , but hadn't realised that there is now a viewer toolbar icon.

Pressing the Print Screen keyboard key and then opening the saved image doesn't take long, but using the viewer icon will also be easier for me... :D

The other Capture options could also sometimes be useful.
