1.7.2 import no sidecar / .xmp file

Hi,

if you have activated sidecars for videos and categorise a video, XMP automatically creates an .xmp file and saves the categories there.

If you now move the video including the .xmp to a new folder in Windows Explorer, XMP ignores the content of the .xmp file. In older versions, the categories were imported. This is a catastrophe for me because I have moved hundreds of videos and nothing is categorised any more. :(

We had the same problem 2 years ago: viewtopic.php?f=104&t=43341

Categorise a video in folder 01:

Move video and .xmp to another folder:

Explorer.jpg (10.53 KiB) Viewed 4051 times

XMP don't import the saved categories:

02.jpg (21.72 KiB) Viewed 4051 times

For testing purposes, I started with fresh settings and only changed attached settings.

Sure, please find these attached.

I also tested it with the old version 1.4.0, which fixed the problem 2 years ago and it doesn't work there either. I first deleted the XnViewMP folder in Roaming, uninstalled the program and reinstalled it. I also deleted the sidecar. Same problems as with 1.7.2

Video are disabled in 'Custom filter', so files are not readed

I have not disabled video in any custom filter. The settings come from a fresh installation. How can I reactivate this?

Settings>View>Filter

Works now.

However, this option should be better explained. I'm also wondering why it was set this way. I did not set this and after deleting options XnView MP automatically creates these settings again.

Hi Pierre,

the problem has returned and I have noticed that the problem has only occurred with folders containing a large number of video files.
I didn't have the problem with the ‘vanilla’ settings. So I searched for all the settings that I had changed manually. After a few hours of searching and testing, I finally found the problem:

If ‘create thumbnails for the whole folder’ is disabled, XMP only creates the thumbnails for the first two pages of the folder view and imports the sidecars. If you then scroll down further, XMP creates more thumbnails, but ignores the content of the sidecars.

For testing purposes, I have created a 30-frame video (without copyright), copied it 400 times including the .xmp files and packed it into the attached archive.
If you then deactivate ‘create thumbnails for the whole folder’, open the folder in XMP and wait until the thumbnails of the first two pages have been created, you should be able to reproduce the problem by scrolling down.

This problem is supposed to be fixed in XnView MP 1.8.0. Please check and confirm the bug fix here.
