XnView Software

Hi,

I hesitated to add this message to the XnView forum because the Shell Extension installation was completed by accepting the option (checkbox) to install this add-on when installing the latest version.

The problem, after installing SE on Windows 11:
1 - The Explorer "Show other options" context menu takes nearly 10 seconds to appear on a very powerful PC (32GB RAM, P9 Evo, Nvidia graphics card). Then, depending on the case, Explorer crashes or not.
2 - Unable to launch a program in administrator mode: Explorer crashes.

On another PC on which XnView was installed without SE, I updated to 1.9.3 and tested the optional SE installation again. Result: same problems as above.

Since I couldn't find a way to uninstall Shell Extension through Windows Settings, I fixed the problem by uninstalling XnView and reinstalling it without the plugin.

The situation returned to normal on both PCs.

Yes I can confirm that when I right-click on almost any file in Windows 10 with XNViewMP 1.92 or 1.93 with the Shell Extension 4.20 installed Windows Explorer crashes with a message about MSVCP140.dll. When I install XNViewMP 1.88 the crash does not happen.

Please note that I have many PC's multi-booting Win10 and 11 - only some of them have the crash problem - others work perfectly fine with the newest XNViewMP + ShellExt

ShellExt is set with no sub-menu so that a thumbnail of the image shows immediately in the right-click window (on Windows 10).

Yes it crashes on right-clicking on almost any file not just image files, even a shortcut on the desktop. I do not have version 1.91 to try. I "fixed" it by copying the five files below to Windows/System32 with newer (according to their file dates) ones (Reinstalling VC++ did not help)

Yes correct - no crash with all versions of XNViewMP + ShellExt

Ok it is working fine if I copy the files into the C:\Program Files\XnViewMP folder
Tested in a VMware Win10x64

Without the files in the XnViewMP folder it crashes when I right-click on an icon file (*,ico) and on a Firefox shortcut on the Desktop
It did not crash when I right-click on a picture file *.jpg

Yes I can but it is 20GB, If you can point me to a place that accepts such large files?
