My first post here.....hope I don't ask a dumb question. Lol
I have a "bmp" animated image in "My Pictures" folder. How would I change it to a "gif" and retain the animation?

For all I know, the 'BMP' format doesn't support animation. So I assume that your image has the extension '.bmp', but in fact is in GIF format. It's in fact important to understand that the extension of a file and the contents/formats typically match, but this is not a must.
To find out, just open the 'Properties' dialog by selecting the image in the browser and then opening the properties using menu 'Edit->Properties' (or CTRL + E).

Helmut......here is the image that I saved. It was animated where I got it, but changed to BMP in MY Pictures folder (no animation).

There is a method for animated bmps, but as you said this is an animated gif

The problem is caused by your Web browser (I assume it's MS Internet Explorer):
When right clicking on your image and choosing 'Save image..' in the context menu, the image is saved as Bitmap. BMP format does not support animation - Internet Explorer saves only the first frame of the image and thus destroys the animated GIF.

I've tried a bit to find a way to save the animated GIF. What you could do is save the whole web page (File->Save as...), the animated GIF will be amongst the save files. Or use a software like HTTrack which can download webpages or parts of it from the web.

Perhaps there's a better way to save animated GIFs from a web page...
