Options > Toolbar: Button for choosing file

In "Options > Toolbar" the user has buttons ">>" for choosing a command file and an icon file. I think instead of ">>" the button should be labeled with "..", which is XnView standard.
In this context I wonder whether we should introduce symbols for choosing files. A small button with a folder symbol might be clearer than just "...". Sure enough this would affect various location throughout the XnView dialogs, e.g. Batch Convert.

• Hi !
- It's indeed incoherent to use either "..." or ">>" for the same purpose…
- IMOH, "..." could do the trick if used for all, but it might use bigger characters. The dots are really tiny and hard to spot…
- In the experimental French DLLs, I use "• • •" (#149) which is supported by the current default font.
- I agree that a small bitmap should look much better, not sure it fits @ all locations, though…
Only to write "• • •" I ought enlarge a bit some button-controls which are too narrow

I think it would be better to change << >> reposition icons to single, large, dark arrows (similar to repostion arrows in slideshow).
Wrong thread !

Hi B. !
- I guess you are not in the right thread, this one is to open a folder in order to choose an icon,
not about the positions of the icons.
- The right thread is

Changing the arrows mentioned in other topic would be enough. I think ">>" is correctly used here for inserting commands/icons into toolbar.

I disagree. The buttons in this context are used for selecting a filename (instead of typing it), for this case the "..." is (sort of) XnView standard.

Yes, I agree with Helmut.

Beta 5 is like this.
I'm not convinced by the use of larger dots or even a folder bitmap as "..." is quite standard
-> closed (in Hack'n Slash style...

Lovely symbol…

Hello !
• Olivier, you are a too fast “Closer” !
- Before to bury that topic, please just watch that we got in TC now (incredible ! ) for the “Browse…” symbol :
• Isn't it quite cute, even lovely ?

- Humm… This one is not the standard (which is black and white), I improved the drawing “a bit”.
However, it's here as a 16² pic, so, usable.

Let's keep it closed.
Clo, if you want you can create user interface style guidelines for XnView, so such problems will not require discussing.
It should keep you busy at least until v3.

Hi Claude,

YES!

Ok, ok... I move it to postponed: but it would require a really
great bitmap one to improve this!

Great ?

Hi Olivier !
• If you find a “great” bitmap as 16² for this, I eat my sunhat !

It looks great! The larger "..." is also nice.
A try?

Hi B. !
• Ah ! Glad to hear a wise man, finally !
• It isn't a big deal to use this bitmap in the programme,
Pierre might give it a try… It's only 822 bytes as BMP 24 BPP…

A symbol might be clearer than just the elipsis "...". But I think that there is no need to have the elipsis ("...") in the symbol. Let's use the "..." for the 1.90.
