0.56/Win 8/64: Adjustment previews issues

Post by JohnFredC »

All of the image adjustment dialogs still need to be upgraded to the same behavior/tools/appearance as the Export dialog!

Current issues:
  • 1. Zoom tool buttons are missing (see below)

    2. Proxy images have reduced resolution (see below)

    3. Zoom and pan are not synchronized between "before" and "after" proxies (see below)
Surely a retro-fit of the correctly executed Export dialog preview tools would be a relatively simple effort?

Currently i use only small image in ajustement preview, to be able to render quickly.
So you would like to have full image?
Pierre.

Hi Pierre,

Sadly, the XnView previews have always been essentially useless without a full resolution image to zoom and pan to see the effects of the adjustments. A down-sampled proxy is inadequate for ALL purposes of adjustment preview. Several posts in the forum about this over the years.

Sometimes I disable the previews and just use the dialog sliders on the displayed image, but in that mode "before and after" doesn't work as well for some things (since the dialogs are modal, I cannot zoom or pan the editor image while the dialog is displayed).

Stymied in all directions, I move to another tool where the previews work as they should.

Couldn't you just "point" to the editor bitmap buffer for the "before" image and use some memory copying to get a bitmap for the "after" (aka) adjusted preview?

An additional step in the right direction would be to make the adjustment dialogs non-modal for zoom and pan of the editor image.

Thanks for listening!
John

That would be awesome, Pierre!

Perhaps do the same for XnView Classic? I still use it more than MP (for various reasons).
