No. When run in WMP or Nero Showtime 3, I don't get such delay.

Ah! Here we are! :D The loudness in view mode is (by default?) set to zero; when I increase it, it works in view mode. To hear the sound in slideshow, it takes closing and restarting XnView. So: Fine, up to that:

Not in browser, only in view mode (while slideshow is running). Picture is fine, but no sound - neither .avi nor .mpg would do.
