That does not work at all. The rotation is not saved to the image file. Perhaps this is an issue only with macOS.

I am currently correcting the rotation of a large number of JPEGs. They were input from an old camera about 10 years ago, and need to be rotated 90 degrees clockwise. The only way I have found to consistently rotate them is to doubleclick the thumbnail to show the enlarged image, rotate ...

The default "View as" was set to "Icons".

No thumbnails. At all.
