The next step is to make sure that useful informations contained in the catalog wont be lost during hazardous operations.
I did not know it was possible to have metadata not in the image file itself. Can I rely on xnview to tell me that a particular piece of data is recorded in the file versus ...

How can I learn about Catalog and Metadata settings?
I am most confused and could use some direction/help to where I can read and understand the catalog and database management. In settings>Catalog I see directories that no longer exist on my system. All these indicate a number of files, but some show size of content and some show 0 size. I have tried ...

Duplicate Images when using Browser
1. When I used the catalog filter to bring photos with certain Keywords (names in my case), duplicate photos appear. Now in some cases the dups are caused in some case on a drive that no longer exists. I guess the thumbnail for that image is still stored somewhere on my system. Where and how do I ...

Re: Give Photos to Family on USB Drive w/XnView
I think so. On the selected image I hit Cntrl-I then select keywords. I expect the names I put there are written to the file itself, and recipient will be able to view the names. I will have to set up a proper configuration or instruction to tell the viewer how to see the associated information.

Give Photos to Family on USB Drive w/XnView
Here's what I want to to do: I have spent a good deal of time organizing and annotating Family photos. Now I want to share -give - these photos to family members. These recipients are likely not real savvy about meta data. But nevertheless, I would like for them to see the tag individual names and ...

Catalog Maintenance
I have moved most of my images to an archive folder position on another internal drive. Now I notice the categories filter tab is confused. I need to know what a good workflow is to clean this up. Many of the old thumbnails that point to an image in the old folder are presented as blank images. In ...

Using Zip version install on external drive.
I am investigating using the folder version of XnView on an external harddrive with a large family photo archive. I am concerned about how to work with settings. I want to give the external drives to family members, and I want them to be able to view the photos and metadata as I do. For instance, I ...

Re: Import and Sort --(On Which Date??)
I want to use the original date taken for the photo. Fortunately, the date modified is almost always the same - so no problem. I must have some software to develop raw images that may change the date. I will now have to pay attention to what dates my other software happen to change. I never thought ...

Import and Sort --(On Which Date??)
I use the Import and Sort function to place images in folders according to year and month (yyyy-mm) (i.e. 2016-02). Most have come out just fine. Today I discovered a couple of images in the wrong folder. The only date in the image that was off was the Exif Modify Date. All other date fields are ...

Re: Hide Numerous Folders in Picture Folder
I suppose I could. I have been in a six+ month project digitizing old photos. I was using Breezebrowser which only shows image thumbnails in the viewing window with the tree view off to the left. Workflow becomes a strong habit after working over 2000 images. I just wanted to make Xnview conform to ...

Hide Numerous Folders in Picture Folder
Can we not have file folders displayed in the normal view window? I have over 50 folders in my picture folder. I would like to get to may individual images in the picture folder quickly, rather than having to scroll down through the several folders before I get to the images.
