I'll take the silence as meaning "no." This is something that I would very much like to have in the final version of MP, but for now I've installed a fresh updated copy of Classic... do I need to uninstall MP or can the two coexist? Will the Windows Uninstall function do the trick? Topic for another ...

...searching the forum I find an indication that there may have been the option to change this feature "single view for multiple files" on the Interface menu in 2017, but it's not there now. Has it moved or been eliminated?

I just changed from an old copy of xnview to MP, and now I have tabs instead of windows when I open files... don't want tabs... I haven't yet found a way to reclaim this 'classic' function. Can I?
