That's enormously helpful, @jkm.
The main reason I wanted to see the xmp files was because I was having trouble with keeping them linked to the image files. That problem is fixed now, thanks to you and this board. As soon as I feel 100% comfortable it's all working, I'll stop showing the xmp files ...

Re: How to put xmp files last after all images
Have you explored the various browser View > Sort by options, multiple sequence options for a given option?
I have, but I'm yet to find the same sort order I had before. Not to worry. I've now got the xmp files showing all together so it's not so much of a problem any more. Thank you for ...

Re: File filter question
Thank you @jkm. I thought I'd turned off filters by setting "all" down the bottom - appreciate the confirmation. The green arrow is in the middle pane. Perhaps it was always there, but it seems to be new to me.

How to put xmp files last after all images
Until a few minutes ago, when I was going through a file folder in the main file panel, the images (raw and jpg) would be in file order first, then the xmp files would appear after all the image files - raw, jpg, raw, jpg etc then all the xmp files at the end.

File filter question
I set a filter for files but now I don't want it. Would someone please tell me how to turn off filters?
There's now a big green arrow in the panel with the files and I don't know what it means. It doesn't do anything when I click on it, so I assume it indicates I've still got a filter turned on.

Re: XMP data not showing in XMP tab of CR3 files
@jkm thank you for all your help. It was the file name. I edited the ini file and all's good now.
I also did a test by renaming one of the delinquent files and its xmp back to the basic format as in the camera, removing the date characters I added when I imported to lightroom. That also worked and ...

Re: XMP data not showing in XMP tab of CR3 files
Thank you very much for your detailed response. I've checked everything you mentioned, but have had no luck in figuring this out yet.
The name of the xmp file must have the same base name as the master file. So for a master file named A12345.cr3, there are only two acceptable names for the xmp ...

XMP data not showing in XMP tab of CR3 files
I've come across a problem after leaving lightroom. The files are CR3 files (Canon) and they have an associated XMP file of the same assigned name. I can read the xmp files on their own. They are in the same directory/folder as the image files and have the same file name, just the different ...

Re: duplicate images in category view
Thank you for the quick response. I have to admit I don't know if I used 'base path" or not because I'm not sure what that is. Sorry.

duplicate images in category view
When I open some categories there are duplicate thumbnails. When I go to the folder, there is only one file listed for each one that's duplicated in the category view, so I know the actual files are okay and figure the thumbnails have been messed up somehow.
What is the best way to fix this?

Thank you Friedrich. It was the filter in the main window toolbar that I'd not set to video. All good now

How to see and view video files?
I've saved some videos to a folder using XnView import function; however, when I go to the folder in XnView, nothing shows up in the browser window. The videos are all there on the drive when I look in Windows File Explorer, but there's nothing to see in XnView. (The files are all mp4.)

Re: How to add and check keywords?
What a brilliant resource, @michel038. What an effort you've put in.
I will be spending a lot of time exploring your pages learning how to get the best from XnView and about photo asset management generally.
Merci mille fois - thank you a zillion times over

Re: How to add and check keywords?
Thank you very much, @michel038. I think I've done what you suggested and ticked the boxes in the metadata settings.
I see that the XMP file is updated now and has the keywords. I checked it's doing what I was hoping for by importing a few files to LR. It's working just as I wanted, with LR showing ...

How to add and check keywords?
As I understand it, XnViewMP categories are separate and distinct from keywords, with categories stored in a separate database.
I'm used to having a hierarchical keyword structure and would like to know how to achieve this in XnViewMP. That is, to have hierarchical keywords embedded in the photo ...
