I was able to install Flatseal very easily - it is in the Zorin 'software' set-up, or at least that recognises it.
I can, however, find no specific reference to Xnview in the Flatseal screens, so that may imply I haven't got the Flatpack version.

Could be that.
I shall continue to watch this thread, and if a clear route to a solution emerges, I'll take it. But I mainly use XnView for editing stuff that will stay digital. Printing directly from it is relatively less urgent, and there are ways round.

I have taken my earlier speculation a stage further, by uninstalling XnView entirely, making sure the Printer is 'on' and then re-installing. But that doesn't change anything, either.
I can note,however, that both GIMP, and the Image Viewer installed in Zorin, print images, from the same computer ...

I hoped I might have had an inspiration overnight. I'm pretty sure last night I booted up XnView first, and then fired up the printer only when I was ready to print. Maybe the printer needed to be 'live' before XnView was opened for XnView to be able to 'see' it ?

Thank you for this reply. I've continued to fiddle since posting, and have noticed (a) XnView itself is significantly different re slideshow in the two installations I've mentioned and (b) in both there is an icon on the top bar for slideshow.
I don't use that bar routinely, so hadn't noticed it ...
