I think you was just missing a small piece of the puzzle here. I also think you should be able to get this working how you wanted without to much trouble now.

Just remember the settings for (Read and writing) to the .db file until you get info embeded and then synced.

Now that its been a while, where are all the ratings stores? I am making backups for my photos and they all having ratings using the colors, bookmarks, and numerical rating. I want to back this all up as well in the event I lose my files. I want to be able to restores all their ratings

I use this for sorting my photography and its great. I just cleaned up over 2tb of photos with a ranking system. I have now backed it up to a second SSD however I want to back up the rankings as well.

I use, categories, color labels, and set ratings. I have seen a post about how to copy that data ...

I have the preview window up, however, the selected image is not displaying, the only way I have been able to fix this is by restarting my laptop but I don't want to have to do that every time it doesn't display.

This was a great help thank you, I am trying to tag things with categories in fullscreen viewer mode but I cannot set up the shortcut there, is there a way to do this?

I just starting using the software for sorting my photos and I have to say its been great, the only suggestion I have so far is that you should be able to add multiple color labels to a single photo and create more color labels if you'd like to. For example I want to label a photo to look at again ...
