Sorry for delay in answering, subscribe feature didn't work.
And now I regret I can't remember which of my two computers it happens on: either Windows Vista Home Premium or Windows 7.
Sorry about that; the problem is sporadic, so not easily reproduced.

Slide show won't close
When I run a slideshow with use-keyboard-press and full-screen and loop options I should be able to get out of the show with Esc.
Sometimes (not always) that doesn't work. Then sometimes pressing Esc 5 or 6 times does the trick. But sometimes it has to be 50 or 60 times, and I'm afraid that one day ...

Re: Simple File Rename
Ah, brilliant! That works. Problem solved.
Sorry to take up your time, but I did search through the PDF manual first without success before coming onto this board.
Thanks
Bart

Re: Simple File Rename
It looks as though I shan’t be using XnView to view my photos very much from now on. With the current version of XnView my most efficient approach seems to be this:
1 Come home from photographing a cathedral; put the photos (say, 200) into my computer.
2 In XnView, use BatchRename to number them ...

Re: Simple File Rename
Here is the main thing for which I use XnView:
1 Come home from photographing a cathedral; put the photos (say, 200) into my computer.
2 Look at them in XnView. Use BatchRename to number them, from 001 upwards.
3 Rearrange them in a natural order by renaming; eg photo 079 belongs naturally after 061 ...

Re: Simple File Rename
Thanks Peter. That works. But it's more laborious than the old way. Quite a big disadvantage as far as I'm concerned.

Simple File Rename
I've used XnView for many years. I've just bought a new computer and installed the latest version of XnView.
Now I find that I can't do something that I did all the time with my previous version: click on the name of an image file and change its name. Now it seems that to change a filename I have to ...

Batch Renaming
I have trouble understanding how the renaming function works.
Suppose I have a directory full of files named 01, 02, 03 etc.
I want to rename them to (eg) p4798, p4799, p4800 etc.
Is that possible? If so, how?

Problems with Large Directory
I have a directory of 1Gb containing 4000 images.
When I try to open the directory with XnView, XnView usually just hangs. Sometimes it works after 4 or 5 attempts.
Sometimes not at all.
This afternoon it worked first time, but hung later.
Can anybody explain?

Batch Rename
I think I might get a lot of benefit from the Batch Rename instruction.
But how does it work? Suppose I want to change a mass of file names from, eg, XXX## to Y-##. How do I do it?
I can't find any help text on this.
Glad of any help.

Selective content in file listing
When I make a listing of image files, I'd like to be able to list filename and breadth and height (in pixels), only and leave out the rest.
Just an idea for the future maybe.
