I have Preview set to not play until I hit its play button, so, a single click on a MOV does nothing but give a pop-up message that Quicktime is smissing.
Since I don't need to play it I leave it as is.
Sometimes (not always) there is a crash, but my main concern is that if I try to rename the MOV ...

Re: Cannot rename some video files in 1.98
I have not intentionally installed quicktime, which I assume is why it won't play MOV files.
But not playing them is not the problem.
The problem is that XnView so readily hangs up, needing Task Manager to close it and try again.

Re: Favourites (& Options) are not remembered
Yes, I realise that.
TC has the dual-window, commander style approach that can do more involved file handling.
As I mentioned above, all I need is the file managemnet skills of Windows Explorer plus image/audo/video viewing, etc, which XnView offers.

Re: Favourites (& Options) are not remembered
Thanks for that.
During this week, I just finished a survey of ~9 Explorer-like Apps in an effort to find one that doesn't have the few small problems I find with XnView.
Half were not free and I had included Total Commander.
Unfortunately, none could handle things the way I like with XnView. For ...

Re: General problems with Video files
I have just found a (temporary?) Workaround since I don't want to revert to Explorer.
What I did was:
(1) under Options > Preview > Auto Play for Audio/Video -- unchecked.
Then when I selest a video that may otherwise cause a hang up, no play starts and no hang up.
If, instead, Options > View ...

General problems with Video files
Apart from routine file management, as I would normally use Windows Explorer for, my main use of VnView is the handling of Image files (to & from Photoshop, etc) and handling Video files. The video files are created because I do a lot of testing using the very flexible Audio/Video converter ...

Cannot rename some video files in 1.98
I have a folder with 11 video files of different fomats.
I can L-click and hit the Rename button (or R-click or F2) to change their names for all but 3 files!
The three are MOV, 3GP and MP4. In these cases an error message pops up with: "Error renaming the File"
The problem may relate to the ...

Re: Favourites (& Options) are not remembered
I have just checked in version 1.98 and it still fails! I use XP SP3.
ALSO, this failure applies to at least some changes to Options as well.
For example, I changed Options > Preview > Auto play Video/Audio (checked).
Then I got XnView to hang up (froze) by clciking on an MOV file, which froze ...

Re: audio & video durations
I have recently updated to version 1.98.
And, as before, I note that the Propeties column contains the dimensions of image files -- good !
However, this column is empty for audio and video files.
Rather than add the option to customise the columns, by adding Dimensions and Duration, like other ...

View content of portable HDD [Fixed]
When I insert a portable HDD into a USB socket, it registers in Windows Explorer but not on the folder tree in XnView.
This is true whether I open Xnview before or after inserting the drive in the USB.
Is this a bug or am I missing something?
Thanks

Frame capture from video clip
I am trying to determine the effect of bitrate, etc, (when using MediaCoder) on the quality of MPEG (MPEG2) files and MPEG4/AVI files.
To this end, I was hoping to compare individual frames from each clip as a means of assessing quality.
However, most software players render the video before ...

As a further check, I captured some stuff to get a 33 GB file (AVI) and its size was correct in XnView !!!
