Step 4 is only applied to browser window. You have to make the browser window smaller before closing the second view window.

So there are some hidden settings in the settings file that don't appear in the Tools/Options window? Why they have to do that?

I hope the next version of XnView will introduce some quick fix buttons for common photo problems. I know most of the functions I listed here are already exist, but I hope they can be implemented as buttons in a (floating) toolbar, so we can access it faster.
