Fuzzy Thumbnails
I'm testing and playing with XnViewMP 0.26.1, and running it side by side with XnView 1.97.6 for Windows. I'm sure somebody has commented on this already, but all of my thumbnails--at all sizes--are fuzzy and blurred. Other than that, my first impressions of MP are quite favorable. Very nice job, Pi...

Overview
I have never seen a discussion on the "big picture" for MP: what it is, why is it, how does it differ from XnView/Windows, etc. Is there such a discussion or introduction somewhere? Thanks. If there is NOT such a discussion/explanation, I think there should be one. And a related question is: if I wo...

Re: AVI Movie Conversion
Hello Pierre--
Yes, the same thing happens on the four different movies that I have tried. They all originated at .MOV files from a iPhone, if that makes any difference. The movies are very short, 2 to 5 seconds, and the number of frames seems to be between 60 and 150.

AVI Movie Conversion
Trying to convert my .MOV movies to images, I found by reading the forum that the movie must be in AVI format. So I got my movies into AVI format, and now can use the "Extract Movie Frames" option on the "Tools" menu. The AVI file plays just fine in XnView, and the convert screen shows how many fram...

Hey John--
Thanks for the link. I squeaked in under the deadline and got a copy. Don't know if I'll like/use the program, but appreciate the link.

Re: XnViewMP new icon
I say we go with "Mother Pucker."
It's so much richer and more evocotive than "multi-platform."

Re: XnViewMP new icon
Thanks, XnTriq. But still not 100% clear. Let me ask the "horse's mouth:" Pierre, is 1.97 the "end of the line" for XnView/Windows? All new development is going to MP? I hope so, because it's going to be a lot of work--even more than usual--to keep working on the old model as well as working on the ...

Re: XnViewMP new icon
Thanks Thibaud and XnTriq for the links. However, it's still not clear about the future of XnView. Two years from now is XnView for Windows going to exist? I can certainly understand Pierre consolidating source code; my company's product runs on different platforms but is all generated from a common...

Re: XnViewMP new icon
Is there an announcement/description of XnViewMP somewhere? I must have missed it. But I would like to read about what the product is, why it's being developed, why I should use it rather than the Windows version, what benefits there are to the world/programmer/users, etc. I understand what it is, b...

Re: TIF File makes XNView crash
Fred, I think maybe "perfect" is a little too ambitious. How about we go with "most excellently designed," and assume--us being human and all--that perfection of either design or implementation is a little beyond our reach. Of course, your two number one objectives are worthy, and the best programs ...

Re: TIF File makes XNView crash
Although I'm not a programmer, I have helped design quite a few programs, and feel a little bit qualified to help on this. The key, I think, is to assume that the loading process is going to FAIL, not that it is going to succeed. It involves a mental shift: "success" is a SPECIAL case, failure is th...

Re: TIF File makes XNView crash
I would also like to suggest that this problem (crashing when trying to open a particular file) illustrates another, more subtle problem. If the "open in" folder/directory contains a file that is going to crash XnView, then that means that XnView crashes every time the user tries to run the program....

Re: TIF File makes XNView crash
This is probably not especially helpful info, but here are some more observations about that file. It opens fine with:
--Microsoft Office Document Imaging
--Microsoft Office Picture Manager
--Windows Picture and Fax Viewer
--Windows Paint
--Picasa (opens and is viewable, but is weird and messed up)

Re: TIF File makes XNView crash
Crash with TIF file confirmed: XnView tries very hard to open/display the file, but eventually crashes. My versions = XnView 1.96.5, Windows XP SP2.
