I would suspect that XNview does this (or should do this) already:
convert the image to grayscale, stretch the whole greyscale-image
between 0 and 255, and apply a threshold of value 128,
and making every pixel above 128 white (1)
and 128 and below equal to black (0) ??

Can't confirm this on xnview 194.2 :

dithering gives me the dithered B/W TIFF image,
selecting "no dither" gives me the non-dithered, yet halftoned pure black-white TIFF image, as should be !

Your right, the scrollwheel of the mouse does work,
sorry for the inconvenience.
The only "bug" would be the name of this option:
this is not a "mouse click" but a :scroll wheel" movement :)

195-B3:
If I use the option "use keyboard or mouse-click"
only the keyboard can be used to advanced the slide-show,
the mouse doesn' t seem to act at all,
double clicking howvere stops the slide-show ?
I don't know how the previous versions were supposed to work ?

Bunbun, what programs did you already try so far ??

I had succesfull restoration of all JPG images on a mem. stick
using the program "restoration" ,
I have used version 2.5.14 .
It is free so you can give it a try,
you have to have administrator account to get the program working.

Anyway good ...

195 B2: custom rotate with grid toggle

Next (minor) issue has also been fixed:

toggling the grid on/off when using the custom-rotate
now works OK.

Thanks again,

Pierre,

the windows file-information is definitively in the file itself.
I tested this on windows XP (SP2)
, added 2 easy recognizable items (text-strings) to a JPG image using
the fileproperties-option of windowsXP (in the keywords tab and the comments tab)
After saving the file I looked at the ...

That's interesting,
I can't confirm your statement because I only have
Vista at the moment.
I can try at work (windows XP) to see if I get the same result .

(I too am hoping that Xnview can show this information)

René

EDIT: question: how can you tell that the info is added to the EXIF ...

I am not sure about windows XP,
but with Vista the file-info is embedded as XMP data
in the images,
then using the XNview option: "build IPTC from XMP"
one can copy this data into IPTC fields and show it
in full screen / slide show.
Maybe this works also for windows XP ??

Sony RAW images slow and incorrect brightness

When reading ARW images taken from a Sony DSLR camera
and comparing them with the same (and simultanious) shot JPG image
the ARW image seems way to bright.

Also reading the ARW type image takes for ever,
I know it can be read much faster if I compare it being read with Adobe Photoshop on the same ...
