a bit complex, for little reward.
I don't see needing this, and issues if one instance crashes and is lost+inaccessible - you'd have to reboot before opening any new one.

Hmm. 50 & 75 seem reasonable.
Is there an issue with large cache, 200mb+? Will it make it slower?

Maybe you could have 3 settings
40, 60, 75?

I've found that nef files load quicker than pef.
Also, nef files are slower than the nikon viewer, maybe they use some embedded jpg to preview.

Cache: jpg quality?

cache jpg can be high/low qual, but what exactly is the % setting here?
Low really is low, but high is 10-15kb / thumb at 200x200px
I had a 200mb cache!
Can there be a 'medium' setting?
changing high/low with non-empty cache will crash xnview.

Gif-animations won't play in Slideshow

Sorry, I don't speak French.
The Google-Translation isn't very helpful either. ^^"
I only got that Pierre is aware if the bug in 1.95.3 .
I already tried out every possible configuration.
Does he want to fix this in a near future, maybe even in his next release?

Many thank's in advance.

Gif-animations won't play in Slideshow

Hi Pierre.
I want to thank you for your wonderful program, the only imageviewer I use. :)

There is a bug that I don't think was reportet before.
When opening Gif-animations in a slideshow, none of them will be played, just the first frame of them is shown.
In quick-slideshow they all are played ...

your thumbnails may be corrupt - I had this in some PS'ed pics
you can rebuild thumbnails from source and it works fine

well we don't want too complex -> slow!
a simple exclude (like in many antivirus progs)
or set to 'read only' mode
would be +++good! :mrgreen:

ACDSee 2.4 was the best and fastest. Simple, non bloated.

Caching 3 images is useful, when I shoot raws I have many similar pics, I go back/fwd 3 pics and delete 1, then again compare 3 and delete 1, etc.

My Nikon viewer does this well.

automatically or not automatically, this can also be an option?
tho I guess it's easyy enough to select files and press 'update'
sometimes menu items are a bit messy now, metadata menu etc some one main but not context menu, maybe those need a revamp too.

I agree: a white list or black list will both work fine, whichever is easiest to program. Also even if the cache is turned off, I think you should read from it for thumbnails instead of generating them
