Re: resizing algorithms
I think most of the resizing algorithms are written specifically for enlarging.

Re: Iphone Flavor of PNG format
Let's wait what they say to Apple's "PNG" ...
The difference is that Apple wants to patent this "invention". I'm not kidding: http://www.faqs.org/patents/app/20100211553
Not surprisingly, PNG group thinks the "invention" is dumb, and PNG specs qualifies as prior art.

Re: Iphone Flavor of PNG format
They tried to do it "legally and smoothly" but still APNG breaks the purpose of PNG "to store a single static image".
It could be their wish, but they forgot to make specific rules about what kind of information is forbidden in third-party chunks. Without such rules, I could embed mp3 inside, if ...

Re: Iphone Flavor of PNG format
APNG is NOT PNG. It also breaks the PNG spec
No it's not. PNG specs allows third-party chunks extensions. If a third-party follows those chunk-naming rules, you cannot accuse them of breaking anything.
APNG has been rejected by the PNG developers
Not unanimously. Some PNG developers love it ...

Let's support regular PNG fully first.JohnFredC wrote:The iPhone is enormously popular. Silly not to support image formats that it supports, bastardized or not.

1. Colormode 4 = "greyscale with alpha"
2. Some APNG examples: http://animatedpng.com/index.php/news/f ... g-samples/

Re: Iphone Flavor of PNG format
Yeah, lets implement normal PNG completely (some features are still missing), before supporting this abomination.

Re: question about levels and curves
Yeah, I miss 3-points levels too.BabaG wrote:gimp allows me to set three points in the levels tool, one each for black, mids, whites.
xnview (or, at least, the version i've been on) only allows for black and white. is this
still the case?
2-points is not enough. Middle point is important.

Re: XnView must go Opensource!
While we were busy arguing, Pierre fixed it in 1.97.4.
But what I mentioned as "low priority" is regular PNG files. I posted this one year ago:
http://newsgroup.xnview.com/viewtopic.php?f=36&t=17474
Even Windows internal viewer and IE render both images correctly.

Re: XnView must go Opensource!
OK, let's take a look at this bug:
http://newsgroup.xnview.com/viewtopic.php?f=36&t=19477
It's the same bug in both Firefox and XnView.
We have now 3 versions of XnView with this bug, with almost to response. All it takes is to go back to the older code, because it worked fine before.

Re: XnView must go Opensource!
disagree
OS software has no responsibility. There are hundreds of firefox bugs that are too 'boring' to fix or have been abandoned over the years.
a responsive owner of xnview gives us much better software than OSS's "someone else will fix it" mentality.
Both approaches have problems.
