Usability: Paint tool: Double-click, shortcuts, cursor shape

Post by helmut »

Some usability suggestion for the paint tool:

a.) Double-clicking on a text should open the dialog for editing the text.

b.) Known Shortcuts should be supported (e.g. Del for deleting the currently selected vector, ...). See Clo's suggestions

c.) Cursor shape should show which vector object is inserted (circle, rectangle, ...). A simple version of this suggestion would be one cursor shape for all objects. This would help the user to see which mode he/she is in (sometimes a mode change occurs automatically without clicking on the toolbar).

The FastStone Editor is an equivalent but more developed paint tool. The text input in it is much more smoother and by using FasStone Editor I sense that it and Pierre's Paint Tool for XnView is using the same but modified source? No/yes?

What I would really like to be able to do in Pierre's Paint tool is to be able to do different selection shapes both within XnView's viewer and within the Paint Tool, especially the freedhand selection, also know as Lasso select

I quickly made this to make clear what I mean:

maybe my request for the Paint Tool belongs in another thread...

• Hello !
… See Clo's suggestions…
• All missing tools and options are still listed THERE
- Not any drawing tool has been added, not even the essential pen¦pencil ! :( That makes the xPaint unusable for a minor retouch, I ought use GreenFish -which works great- but that isn't handy…
