Browser - Catalog filter - rework Special items

Browser - Catalog filter
there are few inconveniences:
- its not possible to reset all filters at once
- 'unset' filters grouped inside Special items instead of corresponding groups
- its possible to select multiple items together with 'All' item, which make no sense

Suggestion

• move Unset filters from Special items into related groups
  like in all other apps and XnView Classic

• add Tag group

• add Reset button (assign Esc key to it)
  when you press Reset - filter resets to All which is limited by Match option [Global, Current folder, Current folder recursive]

• remove 'All' item and Special group as it will be empty
  it is not required anymore, no filter selected = All, limited by Match scope

improve filter abilities:

• add Unrated, Unlabeled, Untagged items (eg like in acdsee)

• split Tag into its own group

This is good idea. And others from your post.

I propose something more - to add a counter of tagged files to this list, near the options to choose (tagged/untagged). And maybe a counters of colour labels and stars too.
Going forward - counter of tagged files I think should be straight visible in main window in browser (and in active top edge in fullscreen mode)), because it's really important (knowing how many photos are currently choosen). There is so many unused place there. Toolbar - somewhere on right - perfect! Tittle bar too.

There is something in settings>browser>browser>title Bar and fuctions added from list>extra to title bar, but nothing works (bug?), and there is no counters. This place not specially visible, but better this one than no one.

'All' is not the same as no selection, it's all files in the catalog.

no filter selection = no filter constraints, but scope constraints must still apply (Match options)

it works better with Catalog panel as it allows to see current folder (scope)

  agree, but I see no reason of having this option at all

  there are 2 approaches of applying filters when selecting multiple items in the same group
  
  • Bridge
    Rating, Color label and Categories filters work in the same way
  • XnViewMP, CaptureOne
    • Rating
      select No rating (2) + Poor (1)
      3 files will be shown - OK
    • Color label
      select No color label (2) + Important (1)
      3 files will be shown - OK
    • Categories
      select Uncategorized (2) + Audio (1)
      only 2 files w/o cats will be shown
  I would prefer Bridge's approach, as it is consistent, and I see no benefits in the other one
