Rename batch - how to start "#" from a number higher than 1?

Post by juan_tico »

Hi all!

I have to work on rename batches quite frequently.
Until now I've used Irfan view.

The XnView / XnConvert combination looked like a good replacement to me under Linux.

Now I'd like to start the renaming batch from a number that's higher than 1.
In the below screenshot I put ### in and I'd like to start the batch starting with the number 100. (next number would be 101 and so on)
Image

Is there a way to do this?

Many thanks in advance!

I don't see a way of doing that, except that you could use newfilename_1##_02_2015 for 100 to 199, or 1### for 1000 to 1999 etc. ...

Am I missing anything?

Great! That's a good workaround.

However, I'm gonna file a request in order to see if this can be implemented in a future version.

If you have a large number of files and often cross the 100's threshold, it can get work intensive.

Cheers!

Hi cday,

now I came across a requirement where I needed to start from 145 and go up to 169.
I'm afraid, that doesn't work with this batch processor.

Any other idea?

I can't see any way of doing that with the existing renaming facility and I'm reasonably sure that it isn't possible at present: you were going to post a request to add that functionality to the renaming options but did you actually do so?

Under Windows there are many freeware batch renaming utilities avaiable, but as you are using Linux you might check to see if there is a simple renaming utility that you could easily integrate into your workflow, either renaming your files before using XnViewMP / XnConvert, or if necessary later.
