Confirm file overwrite - option

Post by cw2002 »

I am asking to implement an option 'Confirm file overwrite', which should behave similar to the existing option 'Confirm file delete'.

This would be very useful and time saving when making ceratin changes to hundreds of files, such as rotating and cropping.

Recycle Bin is not required. Everyone should be enabled to decide to overwrite/delete on own risk.

Location: Options / General / File Operations

Thank you for your attention.

There is an 'Never ask again' option in the 'Save changed file' dialog, but it is valid only for the current session: After a program restart, the user is asked again to confirm overwrite.

A global option in the 'File operations' settings would be convenient.

Subject extended: 'Confirm file DELETE' does not work right after a file operation

I just noticed that the option 'Confirm file delete', if not set, is not valid right after a picture was rotated. In spite of the global setting (switched off), the user will be asked: 'Warning: The file has been changed. Do you really want to delete this file?'.

This observation might help to understand the problem with the file OVERWRITE question: After a picture has been rotated, the user will be asked: 'Question: The file ... already exists ! Dou you really want to overwrite it?'

I suggest global settings to avoid such questions in all cases.

Please, please make the above suggested change ...

"Workflow" can be horrible when, after changing an image, you just want to quickly quit XnView, and you always have to click two dialog boxes - "save file?" and then "overwrite?".

Simply add an "advanced" option that removes confirmation at the user's risk, and saves and overwrites upon quitting.

But in every way, THANKS for the great program!
