1.98.7: Changed dpi in PS CS5 after XnView removing metadata

Post by helmut »

German user Sepp has reported the following problem:

When saving a JPG file with PhotoShop CS5, removing meta data in XnView, and then reopening the JPG in PhotoShop CS5, the dpi value has changes.

Steps to reproduce:
1. In PhotoShop CS5, save an image with 300dpi for example.
2. Open image in XnView.
3. Remove all metadata except ICC profile using Edit > Metadata > Delete.
4. Open image in PhotoShop CS5. All metadata is gone (o.k.), but dpi has changed to 72 dpi (wrong).

According to Sepp, the problem occurs with JPG files, only. When performing the same steps in PS CS3 or CS4, the problem doesn't occur. Reason for problem might be the different saving of metadata of CS5.

Could someone confirm and/or please try and reproduce the problem? Is this a known issue?

Photoshop don't use dpi information stored in JPEG header, but in EXIF
