IPTC LocationName field problem
hi, this is my first post here, so first of all just let me thankyou for this great work: I'm using xnview as my default photo manager and I'm really satisfied for its performances.
nevertheless I'm experiencing a problem with the field named in the post subject. I've been searching the forum before posting but couldn't really figure out if this was solved already in new version (I've the win 1.98.2version running) and/or how to deal with it.
so, I'm using that LocationName field for some of my photos but can't retrieve that metadata with my online cms (zenphoto).
All the metadata are correctly retrieved except that one. After having had an investigation with zenphoto's developer I've realized that both zenphoto and adobe (bridge) can't find that field (FYI this is the thread http://www.zenphoto.org/support/topic.php?id=10680 last posts are relevant).
so, is this a known bug in xnview? is it solved in a new version?
thanks for any hint on how to solve the issue...

Re: IPTC LocationName field problem
yes, everything else is okay
Re: IPTC LocationName field problem
yes, is checked by default and I've never touched it.
in the link I posted above there are also links to an example image, related .ipt file and detailed info on how I ended to ask here. should I provide you with any further info or file let me know.
appearently there is a difference between xnview and the adobe/zenphoto in handling that particular field: they see the field empty while I can see the entry in xnview.

Re: IPTC LocationName field problem
Could you send me an example that zenphoto import correctly... (they don't use IPTC but XMP)
Pierre.
Re: IPTC LocationName field problem
excuse me, I'm not yet accustomed here, where should I send it eventually?
(btw I've tried to send this as PM, but appearently it isn't sent from the outbox)
however it's all explained in that zenphoto's forum thread I've linked before (http://www.zenphoto.org/support/topic.php?id=10680) in the last 4 or 6 posts.
or maybe I don't understand exactly what you're asking?
edit: relevant files are also linked there
edit#2: the above mentioned thread was continued meanwhile, so the posts are now many more...

Re: IPTC LocationName field problem
meanwhile I've been asking to zenphoto to confirm their method to retrieve data, either by XMP or IPTC. this is their answer:
actually nothing changed, but I'm not sure if re-using the previous .ipt file (as I did) is the correct procedure, as I still see xmp datas in the photo's info.
I might try to create a new .ipt file, would you recommend that?
so I've tested what was happening if the photo was written <i>without</i> having XMP updated or created, as your previous question mentioned.there is a plugin that will support XMP, so if you have it enabled then we are using XMP as well as IPTC. Otherwise, no, we are not using XMP we are using IPTC.

Re: IPTC LocationName field problem
further investigating lead me to this point: the output in zenphoto is still the same, even if I use a fresh IPTC info file with no custom XMP data in it.
here is the link to the page
http://www.indirizzofantasma.net/zenpho ... v2.jpg.php
in the description there is the link to the .ipt file
I've noticed that the xmp data (first photo uploaded: http://www.indirizzofantasma.net/zenpho ... 69.jpg.php ) have twice the same value calle priuli ai cavaleti in 2 different fields, or am I wrong?
photoshop:Location="calle priuli ai cavaleti"
photoshop:State="VE"
photoshop:Country="Italia"
photoshop:City="Venezia"
photoshop:Headline="69"
Iptc4xmpCore:Location="calle priuli ai cavaleti"
btw that was filled in as sublocation...
while I've inputted Cannaregio in the Location field.
weird...

Re: IPTC LocationName field problem
one more note here, I've got response from zenphoto's developer: they do not use XMP.
if I don't enable a plugin in their installation (which I've never enabled), they retrieve only IPTC data...

Re: IPTC LocationName field problem
So the file http://www.indirizzofantasma.net/zenpho ... v2.jpg.php is correclty imported in zenphoto??
Pierre.
Re: IPTC LocationName field problem
thankyou for coming back to this...
the short answer is no. they simply didn't implement all iptc fields; but it has taken 1 week of efforts to get to this point.
they actually where confident about the fact that adobe's bridge isn't showing that field as well, so I couldn't solve the point untill I've processed that same file with another exif/iptc manager, which gave me the same result as xnview.
this has convinced zenphoto's developer to start implementing it as well, so I'm currently struggling with their nightly build: I'm not so much into coding, but I want to definitely solve the issue
