Problems with MP3 cover art

Post by BtEO »

XnView appears to have some support for embedded cover art. In particular this seems to be the most recent thread on the subject. But I'm still having trouble with both the latest (1.98.8) version and the latest (3.2) shell extension.

Some files display the cover art in the thumbnail view and in the shell extension[1] but others do not, I've been unable to determine exactly why.

Unfortunately I've not been able to produce a file myself where XnView displays the art, only broken ones (obviously where the art displays everywhere else). This presents a problem, as to post samples I'm therefore required to post material covered by copyright; this is somewhat less than ideal. The best solution I can think of is for a developer to PM me[2] and I can provide a link to the files and further explanation of which file is which.

[1] Curiously though, the shell extension is, for the samples I have, reporting 180x180 dimensions when the cover art is 600x600; If "Recognise by extension" is OFF then XnView itself will display 600x600, if that setting is ON no dimension information will be reported at all.
[2] Let me know if you're fine with 7zip files, they get much better ratios compared to zip files as they can take into account data that is repeated across different files.
