0.48 win-x86: Cannot set File Associations with Admin rights

Post by budz45 »

Hi,

On my Windows 7 sp1, I am currently unable to set File Associations with the new file association tool in XnView MP 0.48.

to reproduce on Windows 7 sp1;

1.) Run the File Association tool (Associate files with XnViewMP.exe) ------> right-click 'run as administrator'
2.) Click on the "Select none" to select all file ext tickboxes
3.) Now manually de-select only the '.psd' tickbox (as I don't want to associate the Adobe PhotoShop psd format)
4.) Press OK
5.) File Associations is not made and a prompt is given; http://i.imgur.com/TyI2E.png :(
6.) Run the same File association tool again....
7.) ..And now notice that the file extensions you selected is not the same/not remembered as before :(

Please investigate!

NOTE: I enabled full Admin rights on my Windows 7 (I think) by following this guide here: http://www.tech-forums.net/pc/f128/admi ... -a-197772/ - which was basically typing entering Secpol.msc in the Windows Start menu
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Also I think a text correction (in English) is required for the same current prompt; http://i.imgur.com/TyI2E.png ...So that I think it should read better like this:
"There has been a problem with configuring the file association(s). Please make sure you have full Admin rights."

It seems that if you have already associated with Windows7 an extension, a program cannot modify it :( The only way is to remove "Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Explorer/FileExts/.ext/UserChoice"
There is many posts about this problem...

Can't you just remove the key by yorself in your tool? You may prompt for it, first.
