Installation process, xnview

Post by geebs46 »

I have extracted xnview from the zip file into xnview program folder where several folders and files have been deposited but I can't seem to get the program to open or to create an appropriate shortcut. What am I failing to do?! (I used to have an older version which I've uninstalled, and am using windows xp) Thanks for your assistance.

Have you tried double clicking on the XnView.exe file in the program folder? [Just ‘XnView’ with the XnView icon if the option to ‘hide extension for known file types’ is set on your computer].

You should be able to create an XnView shortcut on the desktop by right clicking on the same file.

It could be that your security software is blocking execution of XnView as .exe files from unknown sources can be dangerous. On Windows 7 it is possible to right click on a file, select Properties, and unblock it, but at a quick look this option isn't provided in XP.

If you still can’t start the program, try downloading the setup file rather than the zip, which should install XnView in the usual way with an entry in Start | All Programs.

Thanks for the reply - everything happened when I double-clicked on the exe file . . . I also unchecked the dialogue box if I wanted to check Run each time, and then set up a shortcut. (I'm a bit out of practice as everything on my pc has been troublefree for many months :D flw!). Best
