XnView crashing with ecw files

XnView appears very unstable when trying to work with ecw files. I have 1.98.8 installed with the latest plugin files downloaded and installed. XnView crashes repeatedly on trying to open an ecw file but occasionally does succeed in opening it. Then if I try to go to adjust the levels on the file, as soon as I choose this option it crashes. Is the current version compatible with the ecw plugin files offered for download?

Perhaps too big, when you try to load it could you check the memory used?

I'm also trying to open a .ECW file - but when trying to open in XNview, I get a "format of the file 2013.ecw could not be determined".

I just installed the extended version which should have .ECW support...but it doesn't appear to be so?!?
