Hi,
I am currently using Faststone - it's a good image browser and very fast.
FastStone opens CR2's extremely fast & displays them accurately. The speed is the main reason I chose it over Canon's Zoom Browser.
I would rather use XNView, though, for a number of reasonsl, mainly better support for organizing (categories etc). But the loading of CR2 files is extremely slow. After about 20 sec I get a message "This picture will be converted to RGB with 8 bits per component". Once the file is opened, the image looks very dark, as if XNview was ignoring the in-camera settings. When I exit the to return to main program (double-click on the tab) XNVIew hangs for another 5-10 sec.
I am running XP SP3, XNView 1.96.1.

XnView has the same speed if you use 'embedded thumbnail (jpeg)' in option/View/Misc/Camera rawAmamba wrote:I am currently using Faststone - it's a good image browser and very fast.

Re: Very slow opening of Canon RAW (CR2)
Well, I tried that (right after I read your reply) and it was still slower.
However, whatever you've changed in the latest version, did the trick. XNView is now practically as fast, and it has killer features.
I am switching to it as my default browser.
So I just want to say THANK YOU !

That should be the default. Many folks are clueless why applications hang (XnView trying to open a large CR2 may appear that way)..xnview wrote:XnView has the same speed if you use 'embedded thumbnail (jpeg)' in option/View/Misc/Camera rawAmamba wrote:I am currently using Faststone - it's a good image browser and very fast.

Suggestion: Make the DEFAULT use the "embedded thumbnail" those who need the quality can change it to whatever.. Majority of users just want to see the picture

Just my thoughts.
