Some Amiga IFF/HAM images crash xnview

Post by Keatah »

In going through my classic computing archives I decided to convert some old Amiga pictures to modern-day formats. XnView CTD's when looking at some of these whereas IrFanView does not.

I'm not sure exactly what info you want on this, or if you would even plan on fixing this.

Yes, I'll send them in a day or two. I want to go through them again and test and categorize them. I will send you 1 zip file with two folders. I'll also reference this thread.

Folder 1 will have images that CTD on XnView but work in IrFanView.
Folder 2 will have images that do not work on XnView or IrFanView. These are a crapshoot, I seem to remember them working on my Amiga 20 years ago, but since neither program can read them who knows what's going on? They could be corrupt, or they could be in such an obscure format nobody remembers anything about'em!

I went through and very carefully tested all the suspect images. The problem I'm having is not as bad as I made it out to be! There is no CTD caused by XnView. I had about 5 or 6 "RGB" proprietary-format images saved from Digi-View. It was these files that crashed XnView. These same files also crashed Windows Explorer when right-clicked. So it seems they weren't formed correctly or something. So I don't think we have to worry there unless you want to build in support for Digi-view raw rgb.

Now here.. I'm having the problem with .DR or .DHR files, they do not show correctly in either XnView or IrFanView. I also have some .SHA files that will show in IrFanView, but not XnView.

I believe these to be non-corrupted images because they were batch transfered from multiple disks and intermixed with other working/valid picture files.

Some of these may be in an interlace and/or HAM mode. I can't be certain. But if they are, is the interlaced data being displayed correctly by either program? Can the aspect ratio be made correct? Or is it recommended to just resize/resample?

I hope all that made sense. I'll be sending the pics in moment.
