Multiple errors when launch and opening an image?

Post by mhowes »

This error has been in all the betas and RC, including RC2

I read newsgroups with Forte's Agent and have been trying to use XnView as the viewer for newsgroup images. I setup Agent to launch XnView for jpg files that I want to view.

It works about 75% of the time. Other times I get *multiple* errors.

First, the image does decode and end up in the directory where I tell it.
Second, XnView CAN view this image if I start XnView and browse to that directory and view the image with XnView.

Lastly I'm not sure why there are multiple error msgs instead of just one.
The only guess I have is it seems like is having trouble with image names with spaces in them when launching.

I'm tried to decode and view an image that was named "Lost Ship 15.jpg"

The first error I get from XnView is "Error opening the file <d>", then I get another similar error, followed by a general error that is non-model and displays outside the app?!?

hopefully this can get on the list to fix before 1.90 is released :)
thanks
mike

ugh, posting a reply to my own post, sorry

I realized there might be a way around this problem by changing how I specify XnView gets launched??

thanks

Did this ever get a reply / fix? I'm have _exactly_ this error (altho' only one error per link).

If I right-click the image link, save as, save it to disk, then go to that location, file opens _just_fine_ ...
BUT if I click on image link _in_ the web page it came from, no dice. It will not do it.
Gives an "error reading file <string-filename>" message.

Runs fine from _local_ page on my _local_ PC.
BUT ... in a Terminal Server session, _same_ webpage, _same_ link ... will not open, just gives error.

I figure it has to be either an IE setting (as in, maybe I've got to do a plugin some how? and I am clueless about this, and your instructions seem to be breathe in, breath out, presto chango ... and I just don't understand ... "put file(s) X/Y/Z into location Q" would be helpful?).
... or an XnView setting (except it works _fine_ if I download said file.

I desperately need a viewer to work with this particular website, without downloading the files first. I love XnView, I wanted to use it, it does all the things I need an image viewer to do, simply ... I will donate my first born kitten, and make a donation, just _PLEASE_ help me make it work ... I have never felt so desperate in all my years of software development (gasp, almost 30!!!).

(sorry to sound so frantic, but I _am_ frantic, this once ...)
Version is 1.97 dot 8 ... I can / will download most recent version, if it is believed that will solve this.

Kind regards,
Suzanne :?

I also posed this via different question ...

ttfn, thx.
